The Bayonne Police Department announced that the underpass at 7th Street and Avenue C would be closed for construction activities, effective on or about January 11. The George Harms Construction Company, the building contractor for NJ Transit's Light Rail extension, will be reconstructing the existing retaining wall on the east side of Avenue C between 7th Street and North Street. The sidewalk in that area has already been closed in anticipation of this work.
The underpass will be closed, as needed, until further notice, for the duration of the construction. Electronic variable message signs (VMS) and detour signs will be posted, in order to alert motorists to temporary changes in traffic patterns.
